33 Energy Storage Cabinets Put into Operation at Oil Extraction Site in Tianjin, China

en.Wedoany.com Reported - An energy storage power supply project for an oil extraction unit in Tianjin was recently completed and has officially entered the operational phase. Built by an energy storage company, the project resolves the challenge of remote operation areas lacking grid coverage and power supply, providing electricity for workers' daily lives and the operation of extraction equipment.

Oil extraction operation areas are mostly located in remote regions where grid coverage is difficult to achieve, leaving them in a long-term state of no power or weak grid access. The power shortage not only limits the full-capacity operation of extraction equipment but also affects the basic living conditions of frontline workers.

Given the differences in electricity demand and environmental conditions between residential and extraction areas, the contractor adopted two combined solutions—"photovoltaic + energy storage" and "diesel generator + energy storage"—and customized power supply models based on the functions of each zone.

In the residential area parking lot, one energy storage cabinet with a capacity of 1MWh was deployed, with photovoltaic power generation panels integrated into the canopy roof. The solar power charges the storage cabinet, which then continuously supplies electricity to staff dormitories, canteens, and office areas, forming a clean energy loop of "canopy-top generation, cabinet storage, and downstairs consumption." This solution replaces diesel generators, eliminating noise and air pollution, and improving the living conditions of field workers.

In the extraction area, 32 energy storage cabinets of 241kWh each were deployed in a distributed manner to cover all extraction points. Considering the highly unstable grid in the extraction area, this zone adopts the "diesel generator + energy storage" power supply model. The storage cabinets serve as backup power sources, switching in within milliseconds when the primary power supply fluctuates or is interrupted, providing emergency power for high-power extraction equipment. This reduces the risk of equipment damage and operational downtime caused by sudden power outages, enhancing the continuity and safety of extraction operations.

The energy storage equipment used in the project is the HSS series energy storage system independently developed by the contractor, with a design service life of 10 years and a cycle life exceeding 8,000 cycles. It supports 110% long-term overload operation, capable of withstanding the high-current impact of instantaneous equipment startup. The system achieves a maximum efficiency of 92%, and with intelligent air-cooling management, it maintains stable operation under the significant temperature variations of cold winters and hot summers in North China.

With full-capacity commissioning, this project represents another application case by the contractor in the oil and gas field microgrid sector, and a practice of applying energy storage technology to traditional energy extraction scenarios.
