National Cotton Council Urges Senate to Include Financial Assistance for Cotton Farmers in Budget Framework

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The National Cotton Council has sent a letter to Senate Budget Committee Chairman Ron Johnson, requesting that financial assistance for cotton farmers be included in the Senate's budget reconciliation framework.

In the letter, the Council expressed support for the budget resolution recently approved by the U.S. House of Representatives and urged the Senate to provide instructions to the Senate Agriculture Committee that match or exceed the $12 billion reconciliation instruction amount allocated for farmer assistance by the House. The Council also requested that the Senate Budget Committee add an instruction allowing the Senate Finance Committee to incorporate the Buy American Cotton Act into the reconciliation package. While acknowledging the difficulty of amending the budget framework already passed by the House, the Council believes such action would benefit the long-term development of the U.S. cotton industry.

The budget resolution recently approved by the U.S. House has initiated the budget reconciliation process, and the Senate is currently working on developing its own budget framework.
