Wedoany.com Report-Jun 4, The City of Elberton, located in Northeastern Georgia, has selected Nokia and its partner ZCorum to modernize its broadband infrastructure by deploying a next-generation fiber network. This initiative will replace the city’s aging hybrid fiber-coaxial system with a 25G PON-ready, all-fiber solution capable of delivering multi-gigabit internet speeds to more than 10,000 households.

As part of the project, Nokia will supply advanced fiber and IP technology to support a scalable, high-performance broadband network. This upgrade aims to enhance Elberton’s connectivity and provide faster, more reliable internet access to meet the growing needs of its residents and businesses. The new infrastructure is expected to support services in education, healthcare, remote work, and innovation throughout the community.

The fiber solution deployed by Nokia is designed to accommodate a wide range of passive optical network (PON) technologies, including XGS-PON, 25G PON, and up to 50G PON. This flexibility allows the city to scale its network based on current and future demands. Additionally, Nokia’s MoCA Access solution will enable high-speed access in buildings where fiber installation is not feasible, while its IP/MPLS routing technology will provide a robust and expandable backbone network.

ZCorum, a longstanding partner of Nokia, will manage the supply, installation, and configuration of the system. The company will also provide ongoing operational and technical support to ensure the network performs reliably over time. ZCorum has been supporting Elberton’s broadband services since 2001 and played a key role in the city’s decision to transition to fiber technology.
