Wedoany.com Report-Jun 10, Lloyd’s Register (LR), a UK-based classification society, and China Cruise Limited (China Cruises) have entered into a strategic cooperation framework agreement to advance collaboration in cruise safety, technology research, green transition, and digitalization. The partnership builds on LR’s prior classification work for Adora Magic City, China’s first domestically constructed large luxury cruise ship.

The agreement aims to support China Cruises in developing and building large cruise ships independently, strengthening the cruise industry’s supply chain. Francesco Ruisi, VP Global Passenger Ship Segment Director at LR, stated: “We aim to support China’s independent development and construction of large cruise ships. We will contribute to the integrated growth of the cruise industry supply chain, and play an active role in helping China’s cruise sector advance toward high-end global positioning with a firm commitment to green and sustainable development.”

Li Ming, General Manager of China Cruises and Chairman of Adora Cruise, added: “We are pleased to establish a strategic partnership with Lloyd’s Register. This collaboration will further strengthen our technical capabilities and international operations, while fostering deeper cooperation in cruise safety, sustainability, and technological innovation.”

LR maintains four cruise expertise centers in China, the UK, Italy, and the US, supporting its global operations. The partnership enhances China Cruises’ technical and operational capabilities, aligning with industry trends toward sustainability and innovation.

In a related development, Adora Flora City, China’s second domestically built large cruise ship, was launched in April 2025. With a length of 341 meters and a gross tonnage of 141,800, the vessel is under construction at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and is scheduled for delivery in late 2026. Both Adora Magic City and Adora Flora City demonstrate China’s growing expertise in large cruise ship construction, a sector historically led by European shipyards.

This collaboration between LR and China Cruises supports the advancement of sustainable cruise technologies and strengthens China’s position in the global cruise industry through shared expertise and innovation.
