en.Wedoany.com Reported - Menzies Aviation has launched a proof-of-concept trial of AI-driven cargo measurement and stacking technology for its cargo operations at London Heathrow Airport.

The pilot, implemented by Menzies in partnership with computer vision specialist CIND, evaluates how automated measurement, real-time cargo visibility, and stacking inspections can improve data quality, operational efficiency, and decision-making in cargo handling processes. As part of Phase One, Menzies deployed CIND's Dimensioner In-Motion system, which automatically measures cargo as it passes through the warehouse, capturing pallet dimensions, weight, stackability, and cargo reference information without stopping the cargo or requiring manual handling. The automated process aims to provide cargo data earlier while reducing manual input points and potential errors. Menzies will assess how this information supports planning and subsequent stages of cargo handling.

Menzies is also testing CIND's ContourCheck technology during unit load device (ULD) stacking. The system builds a real-time visual model as cargo is loaded onto the ULD and compares it against approved aircraft contours, identifying contour or overlimit issues during the stacking process rather than discovering them later in operations. Menzies states that the technology helps reduce last-minute adjustments while supporting loading accuracy, ULD capacity utilization, and flight safety.

Both systems are being evaluated together to determine their potential impact on warehouse processes and the availability and accuracy of cargo data. This proof of concept at Heathrow will also provide Menzies with operational data to determine whether these technologies can be deployed more broadly across its cargo network.

Rory Fidler, Senior Vice President of Cargo Technology at Menzies Aviation, said: "Innovation is fundamental to how we shape the future of our cargo operations. This proof-of-concept deployment with CIND gives us the opportunity to test how reliable, real-time data can transform the way we plan, load, and manage cargo. The pilot experience will help us assess the potential for scaling across our cargo network, supporting safer operations, smarter capacity utilization, and better decision-making."

The trial is part of Menzies Aviation's broader digital strategy and its roadmap for technology adoption across cargo operations.

Marcus Schelin, CEO of CIND, said: "Our solutions are already validated and established in the market. Partnering with Menzies Aviation is an exciting and important step that strengthens our global rollout and our leading position in the market for automated measurement solutions in air cargo. This Phase One deployment enables us to demonstrate real operational value while supporting safer, more efficient, and data-driven cargo handling."
