UK's Latos Submits Planning Application for 28,000 sq ft Data Centre in Manchester

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Data centre developer Latos Data Centres has submitted a planning application to Manchester City Council for a 28,000 sq ft data centre facility adjacent to Bower Street in the Newton Heath area, with a target completion date before 2030. The planning reference number for this application is PLA-2026-001350.

This two-building development is situated on a three-acre brownfield site near the Lowry Park industrial estate, designed to meet the growing demand for artificial intelligence.

Latos has previously stated that the project will be a "neural edge data centre," which is faster than traditional cloud computing facilities and capable of bringing "powerful AI computing capabilities closer to end users." Neural edge data centres sit at the smaller end of the data centre size spectrum, while hyperscale data centres serving users such as Microsoft represent the largest category.

The company is also progressing a £100 million data centre project in Tees Valley, which is relatively smaller in scale and currently under construction.

The project design is led by Create Architecture, with Euan Kellie Property Solutions serving as planning consultant. E3P, Sol, Merebrook Consulting, CW Studio, GIA, Civic, RWO, SK Transport, and Counter Context are also providing consultancy services.
