en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 23, Iran's Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad stated that the country has discovered a new natural gas resource in the southern Fars Province, with geological reserves exceeding 7.5 trillion cubic feet, equivalent to approximately 212.4 billion cubic meters, of which about 5.7 trillion cubic feet, or roughly 161.4 billion cubic meters, are recoverable.

The newly discovered resource is primarily low-sulfur sweet gas, which can reduce the need for desulfurization in natural gas processing. Iranian authorities have not yet disclosed the gas field's name, the number of exploration wells, development investment, production capacity plans, or the timeline for commissioning, and further reserve assessments and development plan formulation are still required.

This discovery comes at a time when Iran's natural gas supply capacity has been impaired. Before the conflict, Iran's daily natural gas output was approximately 650 million cubic meters. Iranian government officials stated in July that since the outbreak of the U.S.-Iran conflict in late February, attacks on energy facilities have reduced the country's daily natural gas production capacity by about 230 million cubic meters, with the government planning to restore approximately 100 million cubic meters of that capacity over the following months. Whether the newly discovered resources can be converted into actual production will depend on subsequent exploration and evaluation, surface facility construction, and development progress.
