Kazakhstan's KPI Polypropylene Output Up 13.4% in First Seven Months, Exports to Europe Surge 67%

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries (KPI) produced 248,400 tons of polypropylene from January to July this year, up 13.4% year-on-year; during the same period, exports to the European Union surged 67% to 110,600 tons.

KPI operates a 500,000-ton-per-year polypropylene complex in Atyrau, which is the main driver of export growth.The company offers 17 polypropylene grades widely used in construction, textiles, packaging, and consumer goods.

On the domestic front, KPI's deliveries to the local Kazakh market in the first seven months rose nearly 18% year-on-year to 26,000 tons.In addition to the EU, KPI products are also sold to Turkey, Russia, and China.

Askhat Khasenov, Chairman of KazMunayGas, recently inspected the KPI complex and called for ensuring stable operation of the facility, preparing for extended maintenance cycles, expanding the portfolio of high-value-added grades, and steadily boosting exports.

The KPI polypropylene plant was commissioned in November 2022 with a designed annual capacity of 500,000 tons, using propane from the Tengiz oilfield as feedstock.The project's construction cost was $2.63 billion, of which the EPC contract amounted to $1.865 billion, with China National Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. as the general contractor and Lummus Technology as the technology licensor.
