en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 27, the Schwarz Group announced its investment plan for a data center in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany, with plans to invest up to €5.6 billion by 2033 to build a large-scale data center in Dummerstorf, Rostock district. The project is currently in the preliminary planning stage, with the proposed site located in the Dummerstorf industrial park. The construction plan still requires relevant approvals, and specific technical configurations such as cloud computing and AI chips have not yet been finalized.

According to current plans, the data center will reach a capacity of 240MW by 2033, with the €5.6 billion investment corresponding to this phase of construction. The Schwarz Group has also reserved conditions for subsequent expansion, planning to increase the project's grid connection capacity to up to 1GW by 2045. Once completed, the data center will first serve the Group's own digital operations and will be equipped with cloud computing and AI services under Schwarz Digits.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the operational phase expected to create approximately 120 jobs. The proposed site is adjacent to the 380kV extra-high-voltage transmission network, providing access to power resources such as onshore and offshore wind energy in northern Germany. The Schwarz Group plans to use 100% renewable electricity during normal data center operations.

The data center will adopt an air-cooling solution. The Schwarz Group has signed a letter of intent with Rostock's public utility company for waste heat utilization, planning to feed the waste heat generated by server operations into the local heating system. Engineering parameters such as the project's land area and server and chip configurations are still in the design phase.

Schwarz Digits, a subsidiary of the Schwarz Group, is currently building another large-scale data center in Lübbenau, Brandenburg, Germany. Located on the site of a former power plant, the project has a total investment of €11 billion, with an initial planned IT capacity of 200MW in the first phase, targeted for completion by the end of 2027. Dummerstorf has become another major data center project the Group is advancing in Germany.
