en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 1, WIOCC Group signed a shareholder subscription agreement with Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and Vision International Investment Company (Vision Invest) during the LEAP 2026 global technology exhibition held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. AFC and Vision Invest will jointly invest $300 million in WIOCC Group to expand its data center, terrestrial fiber network, and submarine communications assets in Africa.

WIOCC has identified three areas for the deployment of these funds, including accelerating data center capacity rollout and consolidation, extending its open-access terrestrial fiber network to new African markets, and investing in additional submarine communications assets. Information updated by the company on September 3 reaffirmed that the $300 million in new capital will be directly allocated to these three categories of digital infrastructure. The two parties have not yet disclosed the respective investment amounts from AFC and Vision Invest, the specific post-transaction shareholding percentages, or the timeline for phased capital deployment.

WIOCC's existing terrestrial fiber network spans over 115,000 kilometers, with access to submarine communications systems exceeding 200,000 kilometers and submarine network capacity of more than 150Tbps. The company also holds fiber pairs and related capacity assets in submarine cable systems such as Equiano and 2Africa. The group operates across more than 30 African countries, with cumulative investments in existing digital infrastructure assets totaling approximately $950 million.

The group's subsidiary, Open Access Data Centres, currently operates 13 core data centers across South Africa, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, while also operating more than 30 edge data centers in South Africa. Among these, the OADC facility in Durban, South Africa, offers up to 4MW of site load capacity and approximately 4,200 square meters of technical space, and serves as the landing point for the 2Africa submarine cable in KwaZulu-Natal Province.

WIOCC's existing shareholders include multiple African telecommunications operators as well as international development finance and investment institutions. Following the signing of this shareholder subscription agreement, AFC and Vision Invest will join the existing investor base. WIOCC's current operations cover international and intra-African connectivity, metropolitan networks, IP Transit, data center colocation, and technical services. The scope of construction covered by the new funds spans three asset categories: data centers, terrestrial backbone networks, and international submarine cables.
