Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm Complete First 5G NR Power-Saving SSSG Verification

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 2, Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm Technologies completed the first verification of the 3GPP Release 17 Search Space Set Group Switching (SSSG) 5G NR conformance test case. This verification corresponds to 3GPP TS 38.523-1 test case TC 7.1.1.12.5. Both parties have completed all related test items covered by this test case and submitted the results to 3GPP RAN5 for validation.

The test utilized a mobile terminal test platform equipped with the Qualcomm X105 5G Modem-RF system, along with the Rohde & Schwarz R&S TS-PCT protocol conformance test platform. The TS-PCT, built on the CMX500 5G all-in-one signaling tester, is used to execute 5G NR protocol conformance tests. This testing focused on the terminal's PDCCH monitoring behavior under SSSG operating conditions.

SSSG, introduced by 3GPP Release 17, adjusts how 5G NR terminals monitor the Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH), reducing unnecessary control channel monitoring while maintaining reception of scheduling information. This verification established corresponding conformance test procedures for this power-saving mechanism, with test coverage extending to terminal protocol behavior under search space set group switching conditions.

During the verification process, both parties also reviewed the existing conformance test specifications and submitted change requests to 3GPP RAN5 regarding relevant content in the test case. Current records on the 3GPP portal show that change request CR 5491, document R5-264592, titled "Search Space Set Group Switching TC 7.1.1.12.5 Revision," was agreed upon at the RAN5 #112 meeting. RAN5#112 was held on August 24 in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

The Qualcomm X105 5G Modem-RF used in this testing was released in March 2026, featuring a 3GPP Release 19-ready hardware architecture while supporting 5G PowerSave and Release 17 power-saving features. This platform delivers peak downlink rates of 14.8 Gbps and peak uplink rates of 4.2 Gbps, covering 5G Advanced terminal types including smartphones, fixed wireless access, automotive, and industrial IoT.
