Swiss Synhelion Solar Receiver Achieves 1500°C Industrial Process Heat Testing

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 7, updated U.S. Department of Energy materials on concentrating solar-thermal industrial applications showed that a high-temperature solar receiver developed by Swiss solar fuel technology company Synhelion has completed testing at the German Aerospace Center's Synlight solar simulation facility. The receiver can generate renewable high-temperature process heat of up to approximately **1500°C** for cement production.
The receiver underwent thermal performance validation at the Synlight facility using high-intensity concentrated radiation. According to publicly available U.S. Department of Energy information, the receiver has reached the high-temperature range required for cement manufacturing after testing, with the project targeting high-temperature industrial process heat applications.
Synhelion is advancing the application of solar high-temperature heat in cement, fuels, and other industrial production processes. Its technology pathway involves using concentrating solar power to generate high-temperature process heat, which is further utilized in thermochemical reactions and solar fuel production. According to U.S. Department of Energy data, concentrating solar-thermal industrial heat technology can cover temperature ranges from below 400°C to over 1000°C, with Synhelion's latest test reaching 1500°C.
Other industrial solar thermal application cases updated by the U.S. Department of Energy during the same period include a parabolic trough solar collector system deployed by Sunvapor at an almond processing facility in Madera, California. The system is used to produce industrial steam and can supply 100% of the plant's steam demand under clear sky conditions.
