Indonesia's Metalogika Plans to Build a 20MW Thin-Film Solar Cell Factory

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 8, Indonesia's PT Metalogika Rekayasa Sistem and Sweden's Midsummer AB signed a binding investment and industrialization framework agreement, planning to build thin-film solar cell and photovoltaic module manufacturing facilities in Indonesia. The first phase is planned to have an annual capacity of 20MW, with subsequent plans to expand capacity to 200MW per year.

The first-phase project will adopt Midsummer's CIGS thin-film solar cell technology. Midsummer plans to supply its DUO thin-film solar cell production system to the proposed Indonesian joint venture, along with other production equipment and related services needed to achieve 20MW of annual capacity, and to provide engineering, training, procurement, and production support. Midsummer also plans to acquire a minority stake in the joint venture.

The two parties will next advance the establishment of the joint venture, project financing, and related approvals, and the joint venture will subsequently sign an equipment procurement contract with Midsummer. The project investment amount, specific site, construction period, and the timing for the first-phase production line to begin operation have not yet been disclosed.

According to the plan announced by both parties, after the first-phase 20MW production facility is completed and put into operation, further evaluation will be conducted for expansion to 200MW of annual capacity. The project also proposes a long-term plan to expand to GW-scale thin-film solar cell manufacturing capacity.

The project's products are planned to first supply the Indonesian market and further target Southeast Asia and other overseas markets. Midsummer currently operates CIGS thin-film solar cell and module production facilities in Järfälla, Sweden, and Bari, Italy, using the DUO system for production.
