en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 10, the Hydrogen Council released the "Global Hydrogen Compass 2026." The report shows that more than 570 clean hydrogen projects worldwide have formed investment commitments, with cumulative committed investment exceeding $130 billion, corresponding to approximately 6.9 million tons per year of clean hydrogen production capacity, of which about 90% of projects have entered the construction or operational stage. The report was jointly prepared by the Hydrogen Council and McKinsey, and incorporates industry information from approximately 70 global corporate chief executive officers.

Compared with 2025, the scale of committed investment in global clean hydrogen projects has continued to increase. The Hydrogen Council's 2025 "Global Hydrogen Compass" recorded committed investment of $110 billion, covering 510 projects that had reached final investment decision (FID) and entered the construction or operational stage; in 2026, this scale has exceeded $130 billion, with the number of projects increasing to more than 570. Over the past year, global clean hydrogen production capacity already in operation has nearly doubled, and the report expects that as projects under construction are progressively commissioned, operational capacity will nearly double again in 2027.

In terms of regional distribution, China accounts for more than half of the world's committed renewable hydrogen production capacity, while also accounting for approximately 90% of newly commissioned global production capacity since 2025. Europe is currently the world's second-largest clean hydrogen market, with the largest number of projects, and committed investment has grown by approximately 35% since 2025. The United States, by contrast, is concentrated on the low-carbon hydrogen pathway, with its committed low-carbon hydrogen and low-carbon ammonia production capacity accounting for approximately 75% of the global total.

The report's statistics on "committed investment" do not represent all expenditures actually completed. This scope mainly corresponds to projects that have reached FID and more mature stages, including final investment decisions, projects under construction, and projects already in operation, and is used to distinguish them from projects still at the announcement, concept, or early development stage. Under the same statistical framework in 2025, global committed investment was $110 billion; the more than $130 billion in 2026 represents the latest cumulative scale of this mature project investment pool.

On the demand side, existing policies can correspond to at most approximately 11 million tons per year of potential clean hydrogen demand by 2030, of which approximately 6 million tons per year has already been given relatively clear support by formally promulgated and implemented policies, while the remaining approximately 5 million tons per year still depends on the subsequent implementation of existing policy commitments. The Hydrogen Council lists incentive mechanisms, mandatory demand policies, carbon pricing, and supporting infrastructure as the main policy conditions affecting the subsequent implementation of projects.
