Wedoany.com Report-Jun 23, Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co (NBOSCO), a Shanghai-listed subsidiary of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group, has announced plans to expand its containership fleet by investing up to $278 million in four new 4,300 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) vessels. The company has yet to select a shipyard, with the decision to be made through a competitive bidding process.
This expansion follows NBOSCO’s recent order of four 2,700 TEU ships from Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, each valued at approximately $48 million, with deliveries scheduled for 2027. The new orders reinforce NBOSCO’s commitment to enhancing its capacity to meet growing global shipping demands.
According to Alphaliner, NBOSCO ranks 24th among global container carriers, operating a fleet of 87 ships with more than 10 newbuilds currently on order. The addition of the 4,300 TEU vessels will further strengthen its position in the competitive maritime transport sector.
A spokesperson for NBOSCO stated: “The move comes hot on the heels of four 2,700 teu ships booked at Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, with deliveries expected in 2027.” The company aims to bolster its fleet’s efficiency and capacity to support international trade routes.
The investment reflects NBOSCO’s strategic focus on modernizing its fleet to meet the needs of global supply chains while maintaining operational efficiency. The new vessels are expected to enhance the company’s ability to handle increased cargo volumes, supporting the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group’s role as a key player in global maritime logistics.
This expansion aligns with industry trends toward larger, more efficient containerships, positioning NBOSCO to contribute to sustainable and reliable shipping solutions for international markets.
