Bangladesh Launches Tenders for Irrigation Projects in Chattogram and Cox's Bazar
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 10, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation issued a new batch of construction tenders under the Surface Water Irrigation Development Project in Chattogram and Cox's Bazar. The procurement covers large and medium-sized irrigation hydraulic structures, including regulators, submerged weirs, barrages, inverted siphons, and culverts. Some contract packages are scheduled to close bidding on September 24.
The project is implemented by the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation under the Ministry of Agriculture. Its core objective is to enhance surface water utilization capacity in the Chattogram and Cox's Bazar regions by constructing new hydraulic structures to more reliably divert water from rivers, canals, and other surface water sources into the agricultural irrigation system. This procurement adopts an open tendering method, with funds incorporated into the government development budget, and the project office as the procurement entity.
The large irrigation facility contract packages in this round mainly involve the construction of control and water conveyance structures such as regulators, submerged weirs, barrages, and inverted siphons, used for regulating water levels, water storage, and conveying water across roads or terrain obstacles; the medium-sized facility contract packages include barrage structures and culverts. Multiple contract packages entered the procurement stage simultaneously on September 10, forming a concentrated demand for agricultural water conservancy engineering construction.
Upon implementation of the surface water irrigation project, it will further reduce agricultural production's dependence on seasonal rainfall and groundwater extraction, and expand the area covered by stable irrigation. The works will subsequently involve civil engineering, sluice structures, concrete works, water conveyance facilities, and related electromechanical equipment procurement, constituting an important part of the continuous expansion of agricultural water conservancy infrastructure in southeastern Bangladesh.
