ORLEN and Naftogaz Sign Memorandum to Supply 3 LNG Cargoes in Q1 2027

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 21, Polish energy group ORLEN and Ukraine's national oil and gas company Naftogaz Group signed two cooperation memoranda during the Carpathian Eight Summit to expand cooperation on liquefied natural gas and refined product supplies. One of the memoranda covers the supply of 3 LNG cargoes to Ukraine in the first quarter of 2027 to supplement winter gas demand.

This arrangement continues the LNG supply model already established between the two sides. In 2025, ORLEN and Naftogaz signed a total of 5 regasified LNG supply contracts, with a total volume exceeding 8 terawatt-hours; many of these gas batches came from U.S. LNG, which was unloaded and regasified at the LNG receiving facilities in Świnoujście, Poland, or Klaipėda, Lithuania, and then transported to Ukraine via the regional natural gas pipeline network. In November 2025, the two sides also signed a contract under which ORLEN would supply 300 million cubic meters of gas from 3 U.S. LNG cargoes in the first quarter of 2026.

In February 2026, the two sides completed the first U.S. LNG-linked gas supply of the year, with a single batch of nearly 100 million cubic meters. The LNG cargo arrived at Poland's Świnoujście receiving terminal at the end of January, was regasified and fed into the pipeline network for delivery to Ukraine, and additional contracted cargoes continued to be delivered during February and March. ORLEN's previous supply arrangements were mainly executed through its LNG procurement portfolio, its own LNG carrier fleet, and regasification capacity booked in Poland and Lithuania.

The other memorandum signed by the two sides on September 21 was signed by Naftogaz subsidiary Ukrnafta and ORLEN and covers the supply of up to USD 500 million worth of refined products to the Ukrainian market. The agreement also allows the two sides to study shipping Ukrainian-produced crude oil to Central European refineries for processing and to study transferring used fuel tank cars to Ukrnafta for refined product transportation. The specific refined product types, supply volumes, list of refineries, and implementation timeline have not yet been announced.

ORLEN and Naftogaz had already signed two cooperation memoranda in June this year, covering cooperation in LNG trading and the use of regasification and gas transmission infrastructure in the Baltic and Central and Eastern Europe. The newly added 3 LNG cargo arrangement further extends the supply window to the first quarter of 2027. At present, the next substantive milestone is for the two sides to determine the specific cargo volumes and commercial terms and implement the supply arrangement.
