FedEx Announces an Average 5.9% Increase in U.S. Package Shipping Rates for 2027

en.Wedoany.com Reported - FedEx has announced its 2027 rate adjustment plan for the U.S. market. Effective January 4, 2027, standard list rates for U.S. domestic, export, and import package services will increase by an average of 5.9%. Prices for services including FedEx Ground Economy, Ground Multiweight, International Premium, and International Priority DirectDistribution will also be adjusted, with minimum rates rising accordingly. Specific increases will vary by service type, package weight, and shipping distance.

Looking at specific services, the actual increases do not entirely stay at 5.9%. According to calculations by logistics data platform Loop, five of FedEx's seven major services have average increases higher than 5.9%. First Overnight rises by approximately 6.01%, and 2Day A.M. by approximately 6.65%; Standard Overnight increases by approximately 5.16%, while Express Saver has an average increase of approximately 3.09%. For FedEx Ground packages weighing 1 to 5 pounds, the average increase is approximately 6.49%, a weight range commonly used in small e-commerce shipments.

Surcharges will also be adjusted in 2027. Taking U.S. domestic packages as an example, the weight-based Additional Handling Surcharge for Zone 2 will increase from $46 to $49.50; the Residential Delivery Charge will rise from $6.95 to $7.35; and the Oversize Charge for FedEx Home Delivery in Zones 3–4 will increase from $275 to $290. The Residential Area Surcharge will rise from $6.60 to $7, and the Commercial Area Surcharge from $4.45 to $4.70.

FedEx will also introduce two paper document charges starting January 18, 2027. For internationally related documents submitted in non-electronic form before shipment processing and requiring manual handling by FedEx, a $25 Paper Document Fee will be charged per shipment; for U.S. domestic and export shipments using a manual paper air waybill, a $5 Paper Air Waybill Fee will apply. For some international packages and express freight, the scope of application of the Residential Delivery Charge will also be expanded.

In addition to base rate and surcharge adjustments, FedEx plans to adjust the zone classifications for certain U.S. domestic origin and destination ZIP code combinations starting February 1, 2027. Since U.S. package shipping prices are directly related to shipping zones, the final shipping costs for affected shipments will also be influenced by the new zone classification. FedEx has simultaneously released the ZIP code lists corresponding to the 2027 Delivery Area Surcharge and Pickup Area Surcharge.
