DHL Expands Global Battery Logistics Network, Now Covering More Than 20 Specialized Nodes

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 22, DHL announced the expansion of its global battery logistics network, which now connects more than 20 specialized nodes worldwide through EV and Battery Centers of Excellence, covering electric vehicles, battery manufacturing, industrial equipment, and energy storage systems. The network integrates transportation, warehousing, manufacturing logistics, after-sales services, and full battery lifecycle services from DHL Supply Chain, DHL Global Forwarding, and DHL Express, and will continue to add specialized facilities in Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Americas, the Middle East, and Africa.

In addition to dangerous goods warehousing, DHL's existing battery logistics facilities also provide battery diagnostics, testing, charging, state conditioning, repair, return logistics, and pre-recycling processing. Halle, Germany, recently added 13,000 square meters of dedicated battery warehousing space, and a new specialized battery logistics facility is under construction in Hungary, scheduled to begin operations in 2027. The European Battery Logistics Center in Holtum, the Netherlands, broke ground in May this year, with the project planning 17,000 square meters of high-voltage battery warehousing and technical service space, also scheduled to begin operations in early 2027.

The scope of business has further extended from power batteries to large-scale energy storage systems. In the first half of 2026, DHL completed the delivery of more than 1,100 battery energy storage systems (BESS) worldwide, with related services including international transportation, dangerous goods compliance, project logistics, heavy-lift hoisting, and delivery of energy storage equipment to remote project sites. Some large battery systems weigh more than 50 tons per unit, placing higher demands on heavy transport, hoisting, and dangerous goods management.

DHL is also building cross-border transportation corridors covering battery manufacturing bases, gigafactories, and new energy projects, with cargo scope including battery production equipment, raw materials, battery chemicals, and finished batteries. Its battery logistics nodes will also serve mining electrification, critical mineral supply chains, grid energy storage, and renewable energy projects, and will connect with air, European road transport, ocean, and project logistics networks.

New energy logistics has been included by DHL as a key growth area under Strategy 2030. Currently, related business covers 8 segments: wind power, photovoltaics, electric vehicles and batteries, BESS, charging infrastructure, grid infrastructure, hydrogen energy, and alternative fuels. DHL plans to increase revenue from its new energy logistics business from approximately 600 million euros in 2025 to 3 billion euros in 2030.
