DHL: Persistent Congestion at Shanghai, Ningbo, and Manila Ports in September; Delays at Some Shanghai Terminals Exceed 5 Days
en.Wedoany.com Reported - DHL Global Forwarding's September global ocean freight port operations update shows that most ports in the Asia-Pacific region are gradually returning to normal after recent weather disruptions, but Shanghai Port, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, and Manila Port in the Philippines still face notable congestion, with berth pressure and equipment constraints continuing to affect schedule reliability.

The Waigaoqiao and Yangshan areas of Shanghai Port are currently at a relatively high congestion level, with vessel berthing delays exceeding 5 days and notable berth congestion. Conditions at Ningbo-Zhoushan Port are relatively milder, but vessel delays remain between 2 and 5 days. Manila Port also maintains delays of 2 to 5 days, with relatively severe berth congestion.
India's Mundra Port also has delays exceeding 5 days, mainly due to equipment shortages. Apart from the above ports, DHL said most ports in Asia-Pacific have gradually stabilized in recent operations, with the impact of earlier weather disruptions weakening, though some nodes still experience localized congestion, berth tightness, and equipment shortages.
Some ports in the Middle East and Africa face higher levels of congestion. Kenya's Mombasa Port has berthing delays of 7 to 10 days, and vessel waiting times at Pier 2 of South Africa's Durban Port exceed 13 days; Morocco's Casablanca Port and Algeria's Algiers Port are also at relatively high congestion levels. UAE's Jebel Ali Port and Saudi Arabia's Dammam Port are constrained by road and rail connectivity conditions.
Ports in the Americas are generally operating relatively stably, with only a few gateway ports experiencing congestion and equipment constraints. European ports also remain generally stable overall, but previous labor actions at Northern European ports such as Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Hamburg in Germany continue to have aftereffects on port congestion and inland transport.
