CATL and Kuehne+Nagel Sign Memorandum of Cooperation on Battery Logistics and Transport Electrification

The first batch of cooperation initiatives includes advancing the electrification of CATL's European transport flows, and plans to launch a heavy-duty truck battery swapping pilot in China within 2026, with the battery swapping solution provided by Qiji.

The two parties will also cooperate on power battery logistics, recycling, and after-sales support, and will study energy storage and charging solutions for logistics sites. At this stage, publicly available documents do not disclose specific procurement amounts, minimum transport volumes, fleet sizes, or long-term exclusive cooperation terms. The project remains in the implementation preparation phase under the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation.

In the road transport segment, one of the key areas of cooperation is the electrification of heavy-duty trucks. Kuehne+Nagel combines its road logistics operational capabilities with CATL's battery and battery swapping technologies to evaluate transport electrification solutions for European transport flows and a heavy-duty truck battery swapping pilot in the Chinese market. Both parties are also incorporating the relevant projects into their respective supply chain Scope 3 emissions reduction efforts.

According to CATL's official page, the cooperation was first announced on September 18, and Kuehne+Nagel subsequently re-announced it through its global news center on September 24. The first batch of implementation items currently made public by the two companies has been locked in as: electrification of European transport flows, a heavy-duty truck battery swapping pilot in China, battery recycling and after-sales, and energy storage and charging facilities at logistics sites. Specific routes, vehicle scale, and pilot operation timelines have not yet been further disclosed.
