India's Balaji Amines Acetonitrile Expansion Unit Commences Production, Monthly Capacity Rises to 1,440 Tons
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 24, Indian specialty chemicals producer Balaji Amines Limited officially commenced commercial production at its expanded acetonitrile (ACN) unit located in the Chincholi MIDC industrial area of Solapur, Maharashtra. The unit is part of the company's Unit III production base expansion project. Following capacity expansion and technical upgrades, the installed capacity of the acetonitrile unit has been increased to 1,440 tons per month, equivalent to an annualized capacity of approximately 17,300 tons.
This commissioning completes another round of capacity expansion and modernization of Balaji Amines' Unit III acetonitrile unit. The company previously disclosed that the project adopts an improved production process and integrates new equipment with existing acetonitrile production facilities. In 2025, during investor communications, the company stated that the project was planned to increase acetonitrile production capacity to approximately 60 tons per day, with construction and commissioning scheduled for completion in the 2026–2027 fiscal year.
Acetonitrile is a high-purity organic solvent primarily used in pharmaceuticals and active pharmaceutical ingredients, agrochemicals, organic synthesis, and fine chemicals production, and can also be used in certain high-purity chemical production processes. Balaji Amines had previously identified acetonitrile as a key product for capacity expansion. The company's earlier plans indicated that, as downstream pharmaceutical and fine chemical demand expands, its acetonitrile project continues to increase supply capacity through capacity expansion and process upgrades.
