Google Plans to Sign Over $1 Billion Nuclear Power Supply Agreement with Constellation
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 6, Google moved closer to reaching a multi-year nuclear power supply agreement with U.S. nuclear power operator Constellation Energy, with the total contract value expected to reach or exceed $1 billion. People familiar with the matter said the agreement could be announced as early as this week. Neither party has officially announced the deal yet, and the specific scale of power purchases, contract duration, corresponding nuclear power assets, and start date of power supply have not yet been disclosed.

Google has recently expanded its nuclear power procurement in succession. On September 21, Google reached an agreement with Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, to fund capacity upgrades at the Vogtle and Hatch nuclear power plants, expected to add approximately 96 megawatts of nuclear capacity. In October 2025, Google also partnered with NextEra Energy to advance the restart of the Duane Arnold nuclear power plant in Iowa. The unit is planned to resume operation in early 2029 and can provide more than 600 megawatts of nuclear power to the regional grid.
In the field of advanced nuclear energy, Google has also established a long-term procurement arrangement with Kairos Power. The two parties signed an agreement in 2024, planning to deploy up to 500 megawatts of nuclear capacity in the United States through multiple small modular reactor projects, with the first units planned to enter operation in 2030. In August 2025, Kairos Power and the Tennessee Valley Authority further finalized the first power purchase arrangement for the Hermes 2 project, of which 50 megawatts of electricity is planned to enter the grid supplying Google's data centers in Tennessee and Alabama starting in 2030.
On September 30, Constellation Energy signed a 20-year nuclear power purchase agreement with Amazon, covering 690 megawatts of electricity from the Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant in Maryland, of which approximately 190 megawatts comes from capacity upgrades at existing units. The new capacity is planned to enter operation between 2030 and 2032. The agreement also corresponds to more than $3 billion in nuclear power plant facility upgrade investment and covers Amazon's retail electricity supply arrangements in the PJM power market region.
In the second quarter of 2026, Constellation Energy also signed approximately 920 megawatts of new long-term clean power purchase agreements, with terms concentrated between 15 and 20 years, and power supply planned to commence successively between 2029 and 2032. Among them, the publicly disclosed Walmart agreement involves approximately 176 megawatts of electricity from the Dresden nuclear power plant in Illinois, along with approximately 30 megawatts of unit capacity upgrades.
