en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 1, the fourth LNG storage tank at Gate terminal in Maasvlakte, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, was completed and put into operation. The new tank has a capacity of 180,000 m³, and the construction period was approximately 3 years. Gate terminal is jointly operated by Gasunie and Vopak.

With the fourth tank in operation, Gate terminal has added approximately 4 billion m³ per year of regasification capacity, raising the terminal's total regasification capacity to approximately 20 billion m³ per year. The Port of Rotterdam Authority confirmed on October 5 that the tank had completed commissioning and was officially put into service.

Gate terminal previously had 3 LNG storage tanks, each with a capacity of 180,000 m³. With the fourth tank in operation, the number of LNG storage tanks at the terminal has increased to 4, bringing the total capacity of the existing tanks to 720,000 m³. After receiving seaborne LNG, the terminal can store and regasify it and supply gas to the Netherlands and surrounding markets through the natural gas transmission network.

In addition to the tank expansion, the Port of Rotterdam Authority is building a fourth jetty for Gate terminal. The project reached a final investment decision in January 2026 and is currently under construction, with plans to start small-scale LNG vessel loading and marine fuel bunkering operations before the end of 2028. Gate terminal also launched a non-binding market expression of interest for a fifth jetty on August 31.
