Peru's Cerro Lindo Mine $117 Million Upgrade Project Receives Environmental Approval
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 22, Peru's National Environmental Certification Service for Sustainable Investments (Senace) approved the modification plan submitted by Nexa Resources Perú for the Cerro Lindo polymetallic mine, with a planned investment of $117.4 million, covering tailings storage facility expansion, underground crushing system adjustments, mine ventilation facility construction, and living support facilities upgrades. The mine is located in Chincha Province, Ica Region, Peru, and the relevant modifications have obtained environmental approval through Resolution No. 00161-2026-SENACE-PE/DEAR.

The mine will expand the Pahuaypite 2 filtered tailings storage facility in three phases, with a planned additional capacity of approximately 1.53 million cubic meters, increasing it from 15.12 million cubic meters to 16.65 million cubic meters, an increase of approximately 10%. The maximum embankment elevation of the tailings storage facility will reach 2,196 meters above sea level, and the project will also adjust supporting roads, facility layouts, and related pipelines.
The underground crushing system will be relocated to an area with better geological stability, with a new crushing chamber and connecting tunnels to be built, equipped with a primary crusher rated at 1,000 tonnes/hour and designed for 1,200 tonnes/hour. During the relocation period, the mine plans to temporarily deploy mobile crushers and supporting conveyors on the surface to maintain ore processing operations. In addition, three additional portals will be added to the underground mine, two for exhausting contaminated air and one for introducing auxiliary service facilities required for underground operations.
The mining plan will also add block caving mining method to develop previously approved but not yet mined mineral resources in blocks 875 and 428 within the OB2 orebody. Surface supporting works include expanding the Pahuaypite and Casuarinas camps, increasing accommodation capacity from 878 to 1,054 people and from 552 to 668 people, respectively, and adding modular domestic wastewater treatment facilities. The project also plans to build the La Planicie construction camp as well as office, maintenance, and parking facilities.
