en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 26, Timber Towns Victoria released the latest progress on The Precinct, an engineered timber manufacturing precinct in Portland, Victoria, Australia. Phase one of the project is planned with an investment exceeding AUD 200 million to build a hardwood sawmill, a log yard and a glued laminated timber (glulam) production line. Australian timber company Timberlink has joined the project's cooperation framework, and the precinct is advancing commercial partnerships, investment matching and detailed development planning.

The project is located in Portland in southwestern Victoria, Australia, and draws on plantation resources in the Green Triangle forestry region, focusing on processing locally grown blue gum timber. Phase one is planned to process plantation logs into structural beams for residential and commercial construction through sawing, timber sorting and glulam manufacturing. A feasibility study completed in July 2026 proposed that the project could process approximately 300,000 tonnes of timber raw material per year and produce approximately 52,000 cubic metres of glulam products.

On October 14, the project team held an investor seminar in Melbourne, attracting more than 120 representatives from investment, government, forestry, manufacturing and construction sectors. Newly joined Timberlink will participate in project development alongside Australian Bluegum Plantations, OneFortyOne, Finnish wood processing equipment company Raute and WTIBeam. Tim Woods serves as the project's inaugural Chief Executive Officer, responsible for advancing commercial partnerships and development planning.

Under the current plan, the phase one plant is expected to provide approximately 70 permanent operational jobs. The precinct subsequently plans to build laminated veneer lumber (LVL) production facilities and a prefabricated building component processing centre. Once all stages are completed and operating on a single-shift basis, the project team expects to produce structural components sufficient for approximately 20,000 homes per year.
