Valmet of Finland to Supply ITC India with 350 ADT/d Pulping Line

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 26, Finnish paper machinery manufacturer Valmet announced that it will supply a 350 oven-dry metric tons per day (ADT/d) bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) production line to ITC Group's Bhadrachalam paper mill in India. The project, located in Telangana State, India, will adopt high-temperature chemi-thermomechanical pulping (HT-CTMP) technology and will be equipped with evaporation, flash drying, baling, and automation control systems. It is scheduled to start operation in the second quarter of 2028. The order has been included in Valmet's orders received in the second quarter of 2026.

The delivery scope covers a complete pulping line, a BCTMP evaporation plant, flash drying and pulp bale packaging equipment, along with Valmet DNA distributed control system, flow control solutions, and spare parts. Valmet will also supply a new white liquor disc filter for the mill's causticizing line, enabling the new pulping equipment to interface with the mill's existing recovery system.

The production line adopts Valmet's HT-CTMP high-temperature pulping process, which improves pulp fiber integrity by raising fiber processing temperature and reduces energy consumption in the refining stage. The new equipment is designed for producing pulp for high-quality board, with a focus on improving pulp bulk, strength, and energy efficiency in the production process. The flash drying and baling system can handle pulp according to the mill's production schedule, adjusting pulping and pulp utilization capacity in coordination with the existing board production facilities.

The evaporation plant concentrates the waste liquor generated during the pulping process, and the concentrated liquor is then sent to the mill's existing high-power recovery boiler for combustion. Harinarayanan, head of ITC's Paperboards and Specialty Paper business, stated that the company plans to improve pulp quality and operational efficiency at the Bhadrachalam mill by adopting high-temperature chemi-thermomechanical pulping technology.
