en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 27, Australian oil and gas exploration company Invictus Energy disclosed that the Musuma-1 exploration target, located in the eastern Cabora Bassa Basin in Zimbabwe, exhibits clear direct hydrocarbon indicator (DHI) characteristics, with seismic data showing anomalous reflection interfaces known as "flat spots." The well is scheduled to spud in November 2026, targeting shallow reservoirs of the Dande Formation at an expected drilling depth of approximately 1,500 meters, primarily to verify the natural gas and condensate resource potential of the new exploration area in the eastern part of the basin.

The Musuma-1 well is located east of the existing Mukuyu gas field discovery area and represents a new exploration target deployed by Invictus Energy in the eastern Cabora Bassa Basin. The company previously determined that the well corresponds to an unrisked gross mean prospective resource of approximately 1.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 73 million barrels of condensate, with the exploration target defined based on the CB23 seismic survey conducted in 2023.

Drilling operations will be provided by Poland's Exalo Drilling using Rig 202, with SLB undertaking specialized drilling and oilfield services. The Musuma-1 well pad, access roads, and related civil works were completed in mid-October and accepted by the contractor, after which Rig 202 commenced mobilization from the Mukuyu-2 well site. Upon arrival, the rig will undergo equipment assembly, maintenance inspection, and final operational acceptance, with drilling planned to begin in November.

Invictus Energy holds approximately 360,000 hectares of oil and gas exploration acreage in the Cabora Bassa Basin in Zimbabwe, with an 80% interest in the project and serving as operator. The Musuma-1 well will test the hydrocarbon occurrence in the Dande Formation reservoirs and, through subsequent logging and formation evaluation, determine the nature of the subsurface fluids corresponding to the seismic anomalies.
