en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 29, Siemens announced the launch of the Microgrid Integrated Switchboard (MIS), which integrates low-voltage power distribution, protection, automation, and microgrid control into a prefabricated packaged solution for U.S. commercial and industrial customers. The product is factory-integrated, pre-configured, and factory-tested to reduce the workload associated with separately procuring and field-integrating distribution panels, controllers, protection relays, and energy management systems in conventional microgrid projects, thereby shortening project deployment and commissioning cycles.

According to the product technical data sheet released by Siemens, the MIS main bus is rated at multiple current levels from 800 A to 6000 A, with system voltages covering configurations such as 208Y/120 V, 480Y/277 V, and 600Y/347 V, and short-circuit interrupting ratings of up to 100 kA. The equipment features a metal-enclosed, individually compartmented cabinet structure, is available in NEMA 1 indoor or NEMA 3R outdoor configurations, and offers various busbar materials, incoming line arrangements, and grounding protection configurations to suit the distribution needs of different facilities.

The control system uses the Siemens SICAM microgrid controller, equipped with a 22-inch touchscreen, and can connect to the utility grid, photovoltaic generation, battery energy storage systems, and backup generators for unified monitoring and dispatch of distributed energy resources. The system supports both grid-connected and islanded operating modes; in the event of external grid disturbances, it can maintain islanded grid operation through automatic transfer and source coordination, and features black start, demand response, and load shedding functions. Its control strategies can also adjust the operation of electrical loads based on battery state of charge, real-time power, and load priority, supporting peak shaving and economic energy dispatch.

In terms of equipment protection and communications, the MIS integrates multifunction point-of-connection protection relays, surge protective devices, and digital meters, and supports communication protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101, and DNP3. Cybersecurity features include a software firewall, role-based access control, and IPSec encryption. Siemens states that the product uses a vendor-agnostic architecture that can integrate distributed energy resources from different manufacturers, making it suitable for data centers, manufacturing plants, healthcare campuses, government facilities, universities, and other sites with high requirements for power supply continuity. The product is currently available for the U.S. market.
