en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 30, SSEN Transmission in the UK published its consultation report, confirming that the preferred site for the proposed Muir of Pert 275kV substation is "Site 2," located approximately 4 kilometers northeast of Brechin in Angus, Scotland. The substation will be an air-insulated substation covering an area larger than 20 football pitches.

The consultation was held from May to July 2026, with four in-person public events in Edzell, Stracathro, Craigo, and Brechin, directly reaching more than 15,000 local households. Alternative sites included the former RAF Edzell base (Site 16), which was ultimately excluded due to its proximity to residential and commercial premises and potential contamination issues associated with its former military use.

The substation will provide a connection point for the upgraded Bridge of Dun grid supply point, maintain local security of supply, and support the connection of local renewable generation and energy storage. The project will also support the removal of more than 82 kilometers of existing 132kV overhead lines and over 550 associated structures in Angus and Aberdeenshire. Through optimized siting, the proposed Bridge of Dun grid supply point by SSEN Distribution will be integrated into the Muir of Pert substation, avoiding the need to build a separate substation and approximately 5 kilometers of new overhead lines.

The project has now entered the pre-application and conceptual design stage, with further surveys and environmental assessments to be carried out. The next round of public consultation is planned for February 2027.
