Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 22, During the first half of 2025, Ukraine exported 64,800 tonnes of eggs, the Ukraine Customs Service reported. This marked a 96% increase compared with the same period in 2024. In value terms, exports surged 160% to US$87.5 million.

Europe remained the primary destination for Ukrainian eggs. In the first six months, 14% of shipments went to Croatia, 12.9% to the United Kingdom, and 10.9% to Spain. The Customs Service emphasized that strong sales to European markets were the main driver of growth.

Over recent years, Ukrainian egg exports have undergone a notable shift, moving away from the Middle East and Asia toward Europe. Industry representatives explained that the change was linked to disruptions in trade flows earlier in the conflict period.

Yulia Flerova, general director of Yasensvit, a subsidiary of Ovostar Union, stated at an industry conference in Kyiv: “At the beginning of the war, all our export chains were disrupted. Later, the movement of products resumed, but in completely different ways. If our company used to export a lot to the Middle East and Africa, now it is mainly [selling eggs] to Europe.”

She further outlined regulatory challenges: “Even in such an association as the EU, each member country has its own nuances of product certification. This means you can’t export eggs according to one standard, for example, to the Netherlands and Belgium or Sweden, since they have different specific requirements. But there are still opportunities for development.”

Flerova also mentioned logistical difficulties that continue to affect deliveries within Ukraine. She noted: “Due to damage to infrastructure, transport routes, and temporary occupation of territories, it is impossible to deliver products to some frontline zones, and it is extremely difficult to deliver to Kharkiv.”

Rising exports have been linked to higher egg prices in the domestic market. Government agencies reported that in June 2025, the average price of eggs increased by 59.2% compared with the same period in 2024. The increase was attributed in part to stronger external demand.

In parallel, the Ukrainian Antimonopoly Agency announced it had identified signs of competition law violations among the two largest egg producers in the country. The agency did not disclose details but confirmed that further examination of the market would continue.

Overall, Ukraine’s egg industry in 2025 has seen a sharp increase in exports, particularly to Europe, while domestic consumers face higher prices. Companies are working to adapt to EU certification requirements, manage logistical obstacles, and respond to shifting demand patterns.
