Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 6, International technology group ANDRITZ has received an order from Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) to deliver equipment for the Gandikota pumped storage project in Andhra Pradesh, India. The facility, with a planned capacity of 1800MW, is situated in the YSR Kadapa district and forms part of India’s strategy to expand pumped storage resources to enhance grid stability as renewable energy capacity increases.

Under the agreement, ANDRITZ will supply reversible pump turbines, motor-generators, and other electromechanical components. The scope of the contract also covers design, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning. Much of the production will be carried out at ANDRITZ’s Indian facilities, supported by its global network to ensure timely execution.

The contract value has been described as being in the low three-digit million-euro range and will be reflected in the company’s order intake for the second quarter of 2025. The agreement highlights the growing demand for pumped storage systems in India, as the country seeks reliable solutions to balance fluctuating supply from solar and wind power.

This latest order marks the third collaboration between AGEL and ANDRITZ. Previous agreements included the 500MW Chitravathi project awarded in 2023 and the 1500MW Tarali project in 2025. With the addition of Gandikota, ANDRITZ is now actively engaged in five pumped storage projects across India, reinforcing its role as a significant supplier in the region’s energy transition.

Pumped storage plants like Gandikota play a central role in modern energy systems by storing excess power generated during periods of low demand and releasing it when demand peaks. This function makes them essential for integrating large-scale renewable energy into the national grid, ensuring both reliability and efficiency.

AGEL, one of India’s largest renewable energy developers, continues to advance projects that align with the country’s energy goals. By choosing ANDRITZ for Gandikota, the company is building on an established partnership that has already seen substantial progress in earlier projects.

The Gandikota project is expected to support India’s broader efforts to secure sustainable energy growth. In addition to increasing grid flexibility, it will provide valuable infrastructure to help manage the variability inherent in renewable generation.

With construction moving forward, ANDRITZ’s involvement will contribute advanced technology and operational expertise, while its Indian production facilities ensure that local resources are utilized efficiently. The combination of domestic and international capabilities underlines the importance of global collaboration in achieving energy transition objectives.

The successful execution of Gandikota, alongside Chitravathi and Tarali, is set to strengthen both AGEL’s renewable portfolio and ANDRITZ’s presence in the Indian market. Together, these projects are shaping a more resilient and sustainable power system in India.
