Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 18, The state government of Piauí in northeastern Brazil has signed a memorandum of understanding with China’s TBEA Group to jointly pursue green hydrogen and solar energy projects. The agreement was formalized during Governor Rafael Fonteles’ mission to China, with TBEA set to provide a preliminary work plan within 30 days. This plan will outline proposed technologies, equipment, and cooperation mechanisms. The partnership also extends to academic and technological collaboration, reinforcing Piauí’s strategy to advance decarbonisation through clean energy infrastructure.
Governor Fonteles emphasized the importance of the deal: “Today we had more important meetings, including discussions on expanding cooperation on renewable energy projects. We are presenting Piauí as a safe destination for investments in clean energy and infrastructure, with unique potential to attract large companies and generate jobs.” His remarks highlighted the state’s focus on leveraging its renewable energy potential to support economic growth and job creation.
In addition to the agreement with TBEA, Fonteles met with other Chinese companies active in Brazil’s renewable energy market. He held talks with SPIC Energia, which has been operating in Piauí since 2024 through the Marangatu Solar Complex. He also met with Envision Energy, the developer of a $1 billion sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project in Brazil that uses sugarcane as raw material. These meetings formed part of broader discussions on strengthening investment ties and diversifying the clean energy landscape in Piauí.
The governor’s international agenda will conclude in Berlin, where he is scheduled to meet representatives from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action as well as officials at the Brazilian Embassy. During these engagements, Fonteles is expected to promote further hydrogen and low-carbon initiatives. The visit will also include an interaction with Piauí students currently in Germany through the Seduckathon 2025 exchange programme, aimed at fostering international learning and cooperation.
