Wedoany.com Report-Nov 15, Iberdrola, through its company in Brazil, Neoenergia, is going to allocate nearly 50 million euros to the development of clean energy in the Fernando de Noronha archipelago, declared a World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO, through photovoltaic technology and battery storage.
The initiative is part of the Noronha Verde project and will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from local energy generation by 85%. It also includes energy efficiency actions.
Most of the energy currently consumed there comes from thermal generation fuelled by biodiesel. The project therefore represents an important contribution to the energy transition by replacing the consumption of polluting fossil fuels with clean energy.
