Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 22, Airbus officially opened its second Final Assembly Line (FAL) for A320 Family aircraft in Tianjin on Wednesday, reflecting the company’s confidence in China’s aviation market and the strength of its supply chain. The expansion follows an agreement signed in April 2023 by Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury with Tianjin Free Trade Zone Investment Co and Aviation Industry Corporation of China Ltd.

Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury delivers a speech at the inauguration ceremony of Airbus Tianjin 2nd A320 Family Final Assembly Line in North China's Tianjin on October 22, 2025.

Preparations to assemble the first aircraft on the new line are already underway, with full operational capacity expected by early 2026. Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury said: “We welcome the addition of Tianjin's second line to our global production system, as it provides us with the necessary flexibility and capacity to deliver on our plan to assemble 75 A320 Family aircraft per month in 2027.”

The new FAL will allow Airbus to increase production close to its customers in China and the wider region. It complements Airbus’ global network, which now consists of ten FALs: four in Hamburg, Germany; two in Toulouse, France; two in Mobile, USA; and two in Tianjin, China. The expansion strengthens Airbus’ ability to respond to growing demand in Asia while maintaining efficient operations across its international production network.

The original Tianjin FAL, inaugurated in 2008, was Airbus’ first commercial aircraft production line outside Europe. Since then, it has assembled and delivered 780 A320 Family aircraft, serving as a symbol of successful collaboration between China and Europe in civil aviation.

The year 2025 also marks the 40th anniversary of Airbus’ partnership with China’s civil aviation sector, dating back to the delivery of the first Airbus aircraft, an A310, in 1985. Airbus’ presence in China has since grown steadily, supporting the country’s expanding aviation market and contributing to the development of local aviation expertise.

With the addition of the second FAL in Tianjin, Airbus expects to enhance production efficiency, shorten delivery timelines, and meet the increasing demand for single-aisle aircraft in China and surrounding regions. The facility also strengthens Airbus’ commitment to working closely with Chinese suppliers and partners to maintain a robust and competitive supply chain.

Airbus’ ongoing investment in Tianjin highlights the strategic importance of China in its global operations. The new line positions the company to meet future demand while continuing its long-standing cooperation with China’s aviation sector, reflecting decades of successful collaboration and mutual growth.

The second Tianjin FAL not only supports production targets for 2027 but also reinforces Airbus’ role in the development of China’s civil aviation infrastructure, contributing to training, technology transfer, and local industrial capability enhancement. This milestone underlines Airbus’ strategy to expand production capacity in key international markets while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.
