Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 23, Ford Motor Company (F.N) announced on Wednesday a recall of nearly 1.45 million vehicles in the United States due to issues with rear-view cameras. The automaker will also extend warranty coverage for millions of additional vehicles to address similar concerns, as stated in Dearborn, Michigan.

This recall follows a series of actions to resolve rear-view camera malfunctions, with Ford recalling 1.9 million vehicles globally last month for the same issue. “We at Ford aim to move past this specific problem with analog rear-view cameras,” said Kumar Galhotra, Ford’s Chief Operating Officer, emphasizing the company’s commitment to addressing the issue.

The decision comes after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) initiated an investigation in October 2024 into rear-view camera problems in approximately 36,000 2019 Ford Flex vehicles. Earlier, in January, NHTSA raised concerns about camera failures, prompting Ford to conduct a thorough review. The affected cameras may display distorted, intermittent, or blank images when vehicles are in reverse, potentially increasing the risk of accidents.

The recall includes various 2015–2020 model-year vehicles, such as Explorer, Escape, Mustang, Flex, Fiesta, C-Max, Taurus, Fusion, and Lincoln MKT and MKZ models. Ford dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the faulty cameras to ensure safe operation.

In early trading on Wednesday, Ford’s shares experienced a slight decline of 0.7%, reflecting market reactions to the recall news. In September, Ford and NHTSA agreed on a plan to address vehicles equipped with analog cameras manufactured between 2015 and 2025. This includes recalls for some vehicles and a customer satisfaction program offering a 15-year extended warranty for others, covering more than two dozen models, including 2015–2020 F-150 trucks. Ford has not specified the exact number of vehicles under the warranty program.

Ford reported approximately 12,500 warranty claims related to camera issues and noted five accidents, with no injuries reported. Earlier this month, the company recalled about 625,000 vehicles for additional rear-view camera and seat-belt issues. In November 2024, Ford agreed to a $165 million civil penalty following an NHTSA investigation into delays in addressing defective rear-view cameras.

The automaker has faced multiple recalls this year for various issues, including problems with fuel pumps and seat-belt systems. Ford stated that the current recall and warranty program are not expected to significantly impact its financial performance, ensuring focus on customer safety and vehicle reliability.
