Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 8, Topsoe has been selected to provide its dynamic ammonia loop technology, along with proprietary catalysts and equipment, for Synergen Green Energy’s ammonia project in the United States. The facility, once operational, is designed to produce 210,000 tons per year (tpy) of ammonia while avoiding around 400,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually, equivalent to removing approximately 95,000 gasoline-powered passenger cars from the road for a year. The ammonia will be produced using renewable electricity and intended for export markets.

Henrik Rasmussen, Managing Director of Topsoe Americas, said: “We are thrilled that Synergen selected Topsoe to collaborate on their next generation ammonia projects. Green ammonia will add to the diversification of the fuel sources available to industry. We look forward to working with the team from Synergen.”

Synergen Green Energy CEO Pranav Tanti added: “Green fuels are the beginning of a new era for the world. We are excited to partner with a company like Topsoe for their synloop technology that adapts to intermittent power supply. This nascent industry needs partnerships to forge the way ahead and make green fuel projects economically viable, and green ammonia globally competitive. We, at Synergen, remain committed to this cause, and look forward to a long-term and successful relationship with Topsoe.”

Ammonia, whether as green ammonia produced using renewable energy or low-carbon blue ammonia, is expected to play a critical role in the energy transition. It can be transported using existing ammonia infrastructure and has multiple applications, including as a fuel, a hydrogen carrier, and a means to decarbonize industrial processes.

The project represents a step forward in scaling up green ammonia production, providing cleaner alternatives to traditional fossil fuels while supporting industrial and export demand. By integrating Topsoe’s synloop technology, the facility is designed to efficiently handle the intermittent nature of renewable electricity, ensuring reliable production and making green ammonia commercially competitive.

This collaboration aligns with broader efforts to diversify energy sources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and develop sustainable fuel solutions for both domestic and international markets. With production targeted for the export market, the project also contributes to the global adoption of low-carbon ammonia as a versatile energy carrier.

By leveraging advanced technology and renewable energy, Topsoe and Synergen Green Energy aim to set a benchmark for future ammonia projects, supporting the transition toward a low-carbon energy ecosystem while maintaining operational efficiency and economic viability.
