This projection represents a 1.3% increase from last month’s forecast, reflecting improved yield expectations despite periods of heavy rainfall in parts of the northern Great Plain.

The ministry noted that favorable growing conditions in key corn-producing regions contributed to the upward adjustment. Farmers have benefited from technological improvements, optimized planting practices, and careful crop management, which have helped mitigate the impact of localized adverse weather. The forecast highlights continued resilience and efficiency in China’s corn sector, ensuring a strong domestic supply.

In contrast, the soybean production outlook for the same season has been slightly lowered to 20.9 million tonnes. Nevertheless, yields remain strong in the northeast, where soybean production is concentrated, supporting overall stability in the domestic soybean supply.

The ministry emphasized that China’s agricultural sector continues to maintain high productivity across major crops. Corn remains a key staple and feedstock, while soybeans are critical for both domestic consumption and animal feed. The updated forecasts indicate that, despite localized challenges, China’s strategic crop output is expected to remain sufficient to meet domestic demand.

Analysts note that the strong corn harvest will support food security and livestock feed requirements, while the slightly reduced soybean forecast may influence import needs to balance domestic demand.
