Wedoany.com Report-Dec.19, HiTHIUM has introduced the ∞Power8, a 6.9MW/55.2MWh battery energy storage system described as the world's first solution specifically engineered for eight-hour continuous operation. The product targets utilities, large-scale renewable energy facilities, and developers requiring reliable, extended-duration output from wind and solar installations under varying weather conditions.
The launch of HiTHIUM's ∞Power8 battery system.
In contrast to typical 2–4 hour storage systems, the ∞Power8 is presented as a complete turnkey solution optimized from the cell level upward. Each standard unit combines one medium-voltage module with eight energy storage modules to deliver the full 6.9MW power rating and 55.2MWh capacity. This design suits independent storage projects, combined wind-solar developments, and locations facing challenging environmental factors where consistent long-duration energy dispatch is essential.
HiTHIUM maintains that lithium-based technology remains well-suited for extended-duration applications. The company emphasizes that specialized eight-hour cells provide superior performance in efficiency, system integration, and stability across prolonged cycles. For grid operators incorporating higher shares of renewable sources, the eight-hour capability supports management of demand fluctuations, stabilization of variable generation, and improved utilization of renewable assets.
The new system architecture reduces unnecessary components, resulting in higher integration density and enhanced overall efficiency compared to earlier generations. Installation benefits include optimized lifting and wiring arrangements that minimize land use and accelerate deployment. Advanced intelligent management, thermal simulation, and active cell balancing contribute to reduced auxiliary power consumption and elevated round-trip efficiency.
At the core of the platform is the ∞Cell 1300Ah 8h, a high-capacity lithium cell featuring ultra-thick electrode design to overcome issues common in long-duration operation, such as material degradation and ion movement limitations. This cell offers significantly greater capacity than conventional options, enabling fewer components within the system. It is engineered for a lifespan exceeding 25 years.
Mass production of the ∞Power8 system is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. The development reflects ongoing advancements in energy storage technology aimed at supporting greater renewable energy integration and grid reliability.
