Wedoany.com Report-Nov 23,Developer Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE) has formed a joint venture named Moondo Offshore Wind Energy with Moondo Wind Energy (MWE) to develop an 840MW offshore wind project in the South Sea of Korea.

The partnership marks the group’s first entry into the South Korean market and its second venture beyond its base in Taiwan, following its expansion into Northern Kyushu, Japan. Through close collaboration with local partners, the company said it aims to invigorate the region’s energy transition efforts.

The new bottom-fixed offshore project has already secured an Electricity Business Licence from Seoul.

With a total capacity of 840MW, the wind farm will be located in the waters around Geomundo Island, Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do Province, at the south-western tip of the Korean Peninsula.

SRE chairperson Lucas Lin said: “With the Korean government’s plan of ramping up renewables, we are excited to play a role in the country's burgeoning offshore wind sector.

“Over the past decade, SRE has built a strong track record as a leading offshore wind developer in Taiwan.

“We are keen to share our expertise and experience with neighboring markets and look forward to collaborating with our local partners, leveraging their deep local insights as we strive toward achieving net-zero emissions.”

MWE chief executive Honglyol Song added: “I am pleased to collaborate with SRE, a leading offshore wind power company in Taiwan, on Korea's offshore wind project.

“SRE's advanced technology and extensive experience in Taiwan will ensure the successful implementation of the Moondo Offshore Wind Energy, making a significant contribution to Korea's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and achieve RE-100.”

SRE also announced the opening of its new office in central Seoul, where it plans to gradually build a team of local and international professionals passionate about offshore wind to drive the region’s energy transition.
