Hines balancing equipment can be found at the manufacturing plants of the major domestic and international automakers, automotive component companies, aftermarket businesses (driveshaft, crankshaft, brakes, tires, etc.), aerospace companies (jet engine turbines), ag equipment industry leaders, military installations, and in the shops of auto industry racing greats. Countless other industrial facilities also rely on Hines balancers in production and rebuilding processes. For example Hines machines exist in over 100 pump impeller manufacturing and rebuilding plants world-wide. And Hines holds numerous patents demonstrating its leadership in the balancing industry. History Hines Industries, an American balancing machine manufacturer, with headquarters in Ann Arbor, Michigan, was founded in 1979 by Gordon Hines. Gordon began his career designing driveshaft balancing machines for the automotive industry in the 1960s. His work quickly spread to producing balancers for the high-performance race car environment, where the company now holds over 80% of the market. It was also during the 1960s that Hines recognized the need for operator-friendly balancing machines that could be utilized for a multitude of applications beyond race car engines. His initial expansion was to design balancers that would serve the needs of pump impeller manufacturers. The resulting products were pre-calibrated, rapid-cycle machines with quick-change tooling and holding brakes that allowed balance correction of workpieces while still mounted on the balancers. The evolution of computer-aided technology, and automated features for correction and manipulation of work pieces has propelled Hines into an ever expanding environment of applications. And these along with other innovations will enable Hines to meet the expanding needs of clients in the future.

His mission was to manufacture and market an overhead electrical distribution system (Spacer Cable) he invented. The system solved the reliability problems that local utilities were experiencing at the time. The Spacer Cable proved to greatly reduce power outages caused by various elements in the environment. Other benefits soon recognized included less tree trimming, reduced right of way concerns, ease of operation in contaminated environments, and the ability to span cable over a long distance. In the long run, all of these factors contributed to overall lower operating costs. In 1967 Hendrix expanded his product line by entering the underground cable market. Mr. Hendrix introduced HQ200, which required corona free cable, to the industry. Hendrix established a testing protocol, which required each reel of cable to be tested to 200V per mil with a partial discharge of less than 5 picocoulombs. Eighteen years later, the AEIC adopted the test procedure and made it an industry standard. Other Hendrix innovations include a true triple extruder (1987), EZ strip (1988), and a patented compound handling system to minimize contamination (1994). Today, the Hendrix Wire & Cable product line includes underground cable, spacer cable, tree wire, insulators, and other overhead accessory products. Our products are operating world-wide. They have endured an array of diversified environment elements, ranging from those found in the tropical rain forests of Brazil to the snowcaps of Antarctica. Hendrix Wire & Cable is ISO 9001 certified and continues to make quality, service and reliability a mainstay of the Hendrix philosophy. Ownership In 1981 Bill Hendrix sold Hendrix Wire & Cable to Conductron Corporation. During the next 15 years Hendrix Wire & Cable had four different owners. Hendrix is now a member company of The Marmon Group. The Marmon Group is an international association consisting of more than 60 autonomous member companies engaged in manufacturing and service provisions. Currently, there are nine wire and cable companies in The Marmon Group. Each member company of the Marmon Group operates independently. Sharing of information and technology is conducted on an as needed basis. The Marmon Group manages and invests member companies’ financial resources through a small professional organization located in Chicago, IL. Service agreements with each member company allow them to give advice concerning accounting, tax, finance, legal, regulatory and other related matters. The Marmon Group also provides member companies with cost-efficient management services, access to sources for operating capital, and a cohesive yet entrepreneurial identity. In an effort to maintain the provision of quality products and services, the Marmon Group established Marmon College. This is a college that concentrates on the development of employees who will continue to instill quality, service, and reliability in their individual member companys philosophies. Facility Hendrix is located in a 250,000 square foot facility in Milford, New Hampshire. All business functions including, Management, Engineering, Marketing, and Production are located at that site. Keeping all business functions close to the production floor allows for the flexibility needed to excel in customer service. The facility contains an engineering lab capable of performing the industry design tests as well as routine electrical and physical testing. The plant equipment includes a patented world class compound handling system, true triple continuous vulcanization lines, thermoplastic extrusion lines, neutral and jacketing lines, and injection molding equipment. In 1996 Hendrix began a major facility expansion. This expansion includes a re-layout of the facility, the addition of drawing and stranding equipment to complete conductor production in house, increased capacity, updated equipment, and a broadening of the product scope.
