This work was carried out in conjunction with the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and I.C.I. Biological Products (now Astra-Zeneca). In 1988 Aber Instruments was formed to develop the technology. The combination of biologists and electronics engineers working at Aber Instruments produced a range of high specification on-line instruments with worldwide patent cover, including the Biomass Monitor for biotechnology applications and the Yeast Monitor for use in breweries. Aber Instruments has now built up a wealth of experience with all aspects of biomass monitoring and has rapidly gained recognition for its expertise in the development of instrumentation for biotechnology and brewing. The companys expertise in biomass measurement is supplemented by close links with the University of Wales, Aberystwyth where Professor Douglas Kell (now at The University of Manchester and also the new Chief Executive of BBSRC) &colleagues have extensive experience. http://dbkgroup.org To date, Aber Instruments has supplied over 900 systems world-wide for the on-line measurement of viable biomass. The Yeast Monitor is now established as the standard for on-line yeast concentration measurement in breweries and international companies such as Anheuser Busch, SABMiller, Inbev, Coors, Diageo, Heineken, Suntory and San Miguel have benefited from using the instrument. The Biomass monitor is recognised as the online insrument for viable cell mass by the worlds leading pharmaceutical companies such as Genetech, Novo, Biogen Idec,GlaxoSmithkline, Centocor, Sandoz, Eli Lilly and Genzyme. In June 2008 Aber signed an agreement with Applikon BV to incorporate the first viable biomass monitoring system into a commercial controller. In 2008, Aber Instruments celebrated 20 years of innovation and success with promotional events at the Biotechnica and Brau exhibitions. With the experience Aber Instruments has gained over the last two decades you can be rest assured of dependable service, support and expertise. Backed by a world class support team and international distributor network, its easy to see why the worlds leading bio-pharmaceutical and brewing companies look to Aber Instruments for proven biomass monitoring solutions. There is much more to the Super-Dew than first meets the eye. It can be connected by ordinary t/v cable, to a Shaw moisture sensor, from a remote site up to half a mile distant. Simple, compact and reliable, it is used world wide, for spot checks or continuous moisture indication in still or flowing air or gas. Two alarm or control settings are easily set by the user and provide instant alarms on the large LCD illuminated back lit dial and on the green and red signal lamps. As the reading is specific to water vapour, calibration is accurate for different gases. Flow rate has no effect on the accurate measurement. Shaw modified molecular sieve moisture sensors connected to meter have 100 times the dry capacitance of other moisture sensors and an accuracy of better than one part per million moisture in very dry air or gas. They are gold plated with gold filters, 20 years life, and a two years guarantee. Please state either 240 v or 110 v. with order. 4/20 m/a output. D.C. 24 v. input also available. Included is a table stand and panel mounting springs. Only Shaw has a two years, no quibble, meter and sensor guarantee. Fast, one second for 99% response, dry to wet. Indication of ANY moisture . User 5 second calibration check. Economic Price Wet Alarm & Dry Alarm. Sensor included. 20 years sensor life. Large clear digital display with back light. Two years guarantee on meter and sensor. Class 1 Quality control ISO 9002. 4-20 m.a. output. Supplied complete with free table stand for one or more as required. Use as a monitor, indicator, alarm, or controller

At that time MP5KA analogue instrument was also in production. After a period of time it was quickly established that digital instruments were more in demand. A year later a new model appeared on the scene, MP3KDS. This instrument not only measured pressure but also measured velocity in m/sec with the aid of a pilotstatic tube which was a real bonus to the HVAC industry. In 1987 the auto zero micromanometer appeared on the market, which meant that the instrument will zero even when pressure was applied to the instrument and it was a runaway success. By this stage all the MP range of instruments were exported all over the world and supplied to customers such as: ALNOR BP BSRIA Esso HVAC Engineers Neotronics Pharmaceuticals Universities These instruments were manufactured in Oxford, England. Sadly in 1991 the manufacturing of these instruments ended and two new companies emerged: DP Measurement and Associated Instruments Repairs.
