The basic unit of an elliptical gear flowmeter is a flow mechanism that directly measures volume, consisting of two fully meshed elliptical rotors driven by liquid. The flowmeter discharges the fluid volume of four crescent-shaped cavities enclosed between the gear and the shell wall in one cycle of action. The volume of fluid flowing through can be measured by the number of gear rotations. The magnetic coupling device and transmission mechanism transmit the signal to a mechanical counter, which directly indicates the total volume flowing through the flowmeter. If an additional signaling device is added, coupled with an electric display instrument, remote indication and control can be achieved.
