EV Charging Station Modes:
Charging Mode: Mode 1
- Charging Method: Charging through a standard socket.
- Type: AC charging only.
- Single-phase: Maximum voltage 250V, maximum current 16A.
- Three-phase: Maximum voltage 480V, maximum current 16A.
- Requirements:
- Must be equipped with a protective ground wire.
- Leakage protection device recommended.
- Usage Restrictions:
- This mode is prohibited in the USA and UK.
- In Germany, this mode can achieve maximum performance.
Charging Mode: Mode 2
- Charging Method: Charging through a standard socket.
- Single-phase: Maximum voltage 250V, maximum current 32A.
- Three-phase: Maximum voltage 480V, maximum current 32A.
- Requirements:
- Must be equipped with a protective ground wire.
- Control Pilot (CP) on the "cable control box" is crucial.
- Leakage protection device is mandatory.
- In the USA, frequency-based leakage testing is required.
- Maximum Performance in Germany:
- Single-phase: Voltage 230V, current 32A (charging power ≥ 7kW).
- Three-phase: Voltage 400V, current 32A (charging power ≥ 22kW).
Charging Mode: Mode 3
- Usage: Only specific charging stations can be used.
- Type: AC charging only.
- Single-phase: Maximum voltage 250V, maximum current 70A.
- Three-phase: Maximum voltage 480V, maximum current 63A.
- Requirements:
- Must be equipped with a protective ground wire and control pilot.
- Vehicle and charging station can coordinate performance requirements and availability via pulse width modulation (PWM) on the control pilot line.
- Vehicles can return power to the grid.
- Maximum Performance in Germany:
- Single-phase: Voltage 230V, current 70A (charging power ≥ 16kW).
- Three-phase: Voltage 400V, current 63A (charging power ≥ 43kW).
Charging Mode: Mode 4
- Usage: Only specific charging stations can be used.
- Type: DC charging only, with the battery charging cable securely connected to the charging station.
- Type 2 DC: 2 pins (DC+/DC-), voltage 330V, current 80A (charging power ≥ 25kW).
- Type 2 DC: 4 pins (DC+/DC-), voltage 330V, current 160A (charging power ≥ 50kW).
- Combo 2 Type: 2 pins (DC+/DC-), voltage 850V, current 200A (charging power theoretically possible ≥ 170kW).
- Requirements:
- Temperature monitoring inside the connector must be implemented via sensors.
- Vehicle performance can be adjusted via control pilot or Power Line Communication (PLC).
- A charging station can provide both Mode 3 AC and Mode 4 DC charging.
