Wedoany.com Report, On March 16 local time, during the keynote speech at the NVIDIA GTC conference, company founder and CEO Jensen Huang officially announced that "the era of space computing has arrived." This statement signifies NVIDIA's extension of AI computing capabilities from terrestrial data centers into space, deploying edge intelligence applications for the aerospace sector.

In his speech, Huang introduced a series of computing platforms specifically designed for the space environment. Among them, the NVIDIA Space-1 Vera Rubin module is a solution developed for space missions constrained by Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP), capable of delivering data center-level computing performance on spacecraft such as satellites. The concurrently released IGX Thor platform targets high-reliability edge computing scenarios, suitable for critical facilities like space stations and ground stations. The Jetson Orin platform, with its characteristics of low power consumption and high computing power, can support real-time AI inference in autonomous space missions.

The launch of these platforms signifies that NVIDIA is building a comprehensive space computing product line, spanning from orbital data centers to geospatial intelligence analysis, and further to autonomous spacecraft control. Huang stated that with the surge in satellite numbers and the increasing complexity of space missions, the demand for real-time in-orbit processing of massive data is becoming increasingly urgent, and the traditional ground-based data relay processing model can no longer meet the timeliness requirements.

This release is seen by the industry as NVIDIA's strategic expansion into the new battlefield of "Space AI," following its dominance in ground-based AI computing power. With the rapid deployment of low Earth orbit satellite constellations and the increase in deep space exploration missions, space edge computing is poised to become a new growth pole for AI technology.
