Wedoany.com Report on Mar 17th, Amid heightened tensions in the West Asian region, the Indian Navy has deployed multiple warships near the Persian Gulf to provide escort support for merchant vessels bound for India. This move aims to secure critical maritime corridors and ensure stable energy supplies.

Indian Navy officials stated that the warships are on standby, ready to provide necessary assistance to commercial ships transiting the area. These operations are part of "Operation Sankalp," focusing on monitoring the sea routes connecting the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea, and providing escorts when needed.

Two Indian-flagged liquefied petroleum gas carriers, the "Shivalik" and the "Nanda Devi," were recently permitted by Iranian authorities to transit the Strait of Hormuz. Ship tracking systems show the "Shivalik" is currently sailing in the Gulf of Oman and is expected to reach its destination on March 21; both vessels are scheduled to arrive off the Gujarat coast in the coming days. Safe passage is crucial for maintaining India's energy supplies.

Data from India's Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways indicates that currently, 24 Indian-flagged ships and 668 Indian seafarers are operating in the Persian Gulf region, with an additional 76 seafarers on three vessels east of the Strait of Hormuz. The Directorate General of Shipping is collaborating with relevant agencies to track vessel movements and ensure crew safety.

Since establishing a 24-hour control room, authorities have handled over 2,425 phone calls and 4,441 emails, assisting in the repatriation of 223 stranded Indian seafarers. Iranian Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fataali, stated: "Despite the conflict in the region, Iran will allow vessels bound for India to pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz." He emphasized the long-standing relationship and shared interests between Iran and India.
