Track Laying Officially Completed for Kota Bharu-Gombak Section of Malaysia's ECRL Project Built by Chinese Enterprise

Wedoany.com Report on Mar 18th, The track for the Kota Bharu-Gombak section of the Malaysia East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, constructed by a Chinese enterprise, was officially laid through on March 16. This marks the section's entry into the system installation, testing, and commissioning phase, laying the foundation for its opening and operation.

At the track laying completion ceremony, Malaysian Second Minister of Finance Amir Hamzah Azizan stated that the laying of the 519-kilometer Kota Bharu-Gombak section was completed ahead of schedule, demonstrating the efficient synergy and close cooperation between Malaysia and China.

Malaysian Chief Secretary to the Government Azri stated that the ECRL is not only a strategic national asset for Malaysia but also a symbol of the close cooperation between Malaysia and China. Upon completion, the railway will provide the public with a more modern, efficient, and safe travel experience, bringing transformation to Malaysia's transportation system.

Deng Bo, Project Manager of the ECRL project for China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), stated that with the completion of track laying for the Kota Bharu-Gombak section, the Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) are about to commence an 8,000-kilometer fault-free running test. This is a crucial step towards the project's opening and operation, reflecting China's firm commitment to advancing the project with high quality and standards.

The ECRL project is a flagship project under the Belt and Road cooperation between China and Malaysia, with a designed total length of over 600 kilometers. The Kota Bharu-Gombak section is part of the first phase, scheduled to open for operation in January 2027.
