Wedoany.com Report-Dec 13, Passengers traveling between Tallinn, Riga, and Vilnius will have a new rail option starting January 6, 2025, with two transfers.
The initiative involves cooperation between Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian rail operators - Elron, Vivi, and LTG Link - to synchronize timetables and establish a coordinated service across the Baltic States.
The route includes three segments: Vilnius to Riga operated by LTG Link, Riga to Valga operated by Vivi, and Valga to Tallinn via Tartu managed by Elron. Connections have been planned to reduce transfer times and improve schedule alignment. A test run between Riga and Valga using LTG Link's PESA 730 ML train is scheduled to confirm operational readiness.
Passengers will initially need to purchase separate tickets for each operator, but discussions about a unified ticketing system are ongoing. Stops along the route include major cities such as Tallinn, Tartu, Riga, and Vilnius, as well as intermediate locations across the three countries.
This collaboration aims to enhance regional connectivity and create a practical alternative to car travel. Further improvements, including a planned direct service between Tartu and Riga, are expected to follow by 2025.
The connection offers a practical rail travel option within the Baltic States, linking national capitals and key urban centers. Further timetable details and ticketing information will be available by mid-December 2024.
