en.Wedoany.com Reported - Bharat Coal Gasification & Chemicals Limited (BCGCL) recently signed a contract with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to supply the ammonia synthesis unit and ammonium nitrate production unit for its coal gasification project in Jharsuguda, Odisha. BCGCL Chief Technology Officer Deepak Agrawal and L&T Vice President Shirish Dalal completed the agreement signing at the company's Noida office.
With the finalization of these two contracts, BCGCL has completed the contract signing for all four major units of the project. Previously, the other two major unit contracts had been awarded to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. This project is India's first coal-to-gas project, utilizing indigenously developed gasification technology, with a designed production capacity of 2,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate per day.
BCGCL is jointly established with Coal India Limited holding a 51% stake and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited holding a 49% stake. The project is located in Lakhanpur, Odisha, covering an area of approximately 350 acres, with land lease provided by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited. The Ministry of Coal has provided financial support of approximately 13.5 billion rupees for the project through a special incentive scheme.
The coal-to-gas project plans to convert coal into syngas, and subsequently produce ammonia and ammonium nitrate, with the products primarily used in the fertilizer and mining sectors. With the completion of contract signing for all major units, BCGCL marks the project's entry into the engineering implementation phase.
