en.Wedoany.com Reported - Mazak recently launched a new sub-brand, Optonics, aimed at providing cost-effective laser cutting equipment with reliable service. The brand's initial models include the Lz 3015A and Lz 6025A flatbed laser cutting machines, both manufactured in China but required to meet Mazak's quality standards.

Manufacturers of laser cutting machines and other metalworking equipment have long anticipated the surge in exports of Chinese-made machine tools, driven by capacity expansion in China's manufacturing sector. As Chinese-made equipment becomes more prevalent, metalworking companies—especially those focused on procurement costs—have more options, and the impact of government subsidies on machine tool design and production cannot be overlooked. Recognizing this trend, the Mazak Optonics division in Elgin, Illinois, developed the Optonics series of laser cutting machines over the past few months, combining affordability with proven cutting technology and reliable service.

Al Bohlen, President of Mazak Optonics, stated that the company operates two manufacturing plants in China with 1,350 employees, enabling it to leverage proprietary technology to produce low-cost, high-quality machine tools. The initial Optonics-branded laser cutting machines include the Lz 3015A (equipped with a 6 kW or 12 kW laser source, with a maximum cutting area of 5×10 feet) and the Lz 6025A (equipped with a 12 kW or 20 kW laser source, with a maximum cutting area of 8×20 feet). Both models feature the Mazak SmoothCUT fiber laser source—the same laser source used in the FT 250 laser tube cutting machine that debuted at last year's FABTECH show—and are equipped with the SmoothEDGE control system, a dual-pallet changer, and Mazak standard nozzle technology.

Speaking at the "Discover '26 Technology Showcase" held at Mazak headquarters on June 16, Bohlen noted that although these machines are manufactured in China, they must meet Mazak's quality expectations. He anticipates that customers interested in the Optonics brand will include newcomers to the metalworking industry, as well as existing shops looking to cost-effectively increase their laser cutting capacity. As part of the brand launch, Mazak has also incorporated features previously unavailable in some Optiflex series models, such as the 8×20-foot cutting table on the Lz 6025A, which has seen increased demand as fabricators seek to maximize the use of purchased metal materials.

Also on display at the showcase was the Optonics brand's first press brake, the Pb15032H, which is scheduled to officially debut at the FABTECH show in Las Vegas from October 21 to 23. Bohlen stated that as the product line expands, more product information will be available on the Optonics website.
